Just as no one provided you with an instruction manual specific to your baby, toddler, tween, and or teen, no one taught us how to parent our individual adult children. This has been a daunting task for many of us. A task we really do not discuss with our peers or family in an enlightening way. Most of our communication with other parents who are in this unique situation amount to a venting session at best.
And, for those reasons listed above, I believe the subject matter is an outstanding topic for Essential Discourse. When we are able to understand that our children are individuals, will and most make their own decisions and deal with the consequences of those decisions we can let go. We can let go knowing two things if we've taken the responsibility of stewardship seriously. The first, is that they have been throughly equipped to deal with circumstances of life regardless to have they behave. The second, is that life will teach them what they would not adhere too with us being their instructors.
Life is about choices, failures, lessons learned, growth and maturity. As parents of adult children, we can not allow ourselves to become hinderances to our children's adulthood development. We most learn to transition from the authoritative roles into the role of advisors.
